Registration Statistics

Registration statistics - Argos Web Viewer

This report is pulled from SFRSTCR, most of SFRSTCR is shown on the front page SFAREGS.

SFRSTCR has the current registration activity per student, course, and term.

The structure of the report and its reliance on the SFRSTCR creates some deficiencies for term-to-term comparisons with terms that still allow registration activity. The report accurately shows the current registration of a student by course and term, but the inclusion of From Date and To Date creates the impression that it is telling the user what the Registration Status was on that date.

Hypothetical Example:

A student registers for a course on 4/1 and then drops the course on 5/1. Then if the report is run on 6/1 it will only show the dropped course on 5/1 and it will not show the course registration on 4/1. This is the case, even if the report is run using the From and To range of 3/15 - 4/15.

To illustrate the term-to-term issue, let’s compare two hypothetical terms.

Fall 2022 has 1,000 registrations between 3/1/2022 and 5/1/2022.

Fall 2021 also has 1,000 registrations between 3/1/2021 and 5/1/2021, but half of those registrations were also dropped.

If the report were run on 6/1/2022 using those Registration Dates it would show 1,000 registrations for Fall 2022, but only 500 for Fall 2021. Without this context it would seem like Fall 2022 registration was up 100%.

This issue persists when analyzing Units.

Recommendation by Gerald to utilize SFRSTCA for this report as it is the audit log table and retains historical data. Report specifications and purpose would have to be gathered to not accurately double count or undercount students who add/drop the same course multiple times in the same semester.

In other words, we need to count correctly!
